Los Angeles Loved... SXSW 2013

Just back from SXSW and here's a quick recap of some of our favorite take-homes from the festival. Lucius was, once again, our favorite band of the entire week. Jazz Mills and Stephanie Hunt are still Austin's golden girls and the best reason to visit the town no matter if there's a big music festival or not. Gavin Jocius's Age of Annoyance was thee panel highlight. Every one of the half dozen or so Elle King showcases we saw were magnificent -- but especially that 1am slot at Buffalo Billiards's (even though we hate that club). And, for the most part, L.A.'s best (Big Black Delta, RL Grime, Bleached, and Kitten to name a few) fared well against the world's best. We still think, however, most bands don't work this festival the way they should, but that's another matter. Still, while lines wrapped around blocks for Justin Timberlake, Depeche Mode, and Prince, bands like Phox, Marika Hackman, Gems, and Luke Sital-Singh seemed to go unnoticed, which is a shame. On another note, due to a booking issue, we got to stay at the Four Seasons for a few nights and little did we know that's where all the famous people stay so our room was down the hall from Dave Gahan, A-Trak, and Sasha Spielberg (of Wardell). In any case, here's a quick video/photo recap of some of the stuff we saw. Enjoy.
