Los Angeles Loves... A Night at pehrspace

Los Angeles Loves... A Night at pehrspace
For the finale of this four-shows-in-one-week-before-we-go-into-hibernation-again extravaganza, we bring you four local electronic/experimental/ambient artist/producers that we're very honored play the intimate setting of pehrspace.

LESSNESSES is the new project from the ever-brilliant Ezra Buchla who with Daniel Brummel and Corey Fogel blew us away with some recent performances. It's, by far, Buchla's most intense and mind-bending work to date and we cannot wait to see them again. Snorlax (aka Cody Farwell) is one our favorite electronic producer/musicians in town with some of the most clever bass drops and wind-up hooks we've heard, not to mention one badass bass player. ERAS recently released his stunning, new album Portals, which could wind up as one of the best electronic albums out of Los Angeles this year. In the meantime, his remixes of Death Grips, Chelsea Wolfe, and Toro Y Moi (to name a few) continue to splatter all over our Spotify playlists. Straight from Berlin, Darklord Dubload Project will finish off the night with an extended live set as he celebrates the release of his new EP "Warn You Punks" (available now on iTunes), currently climbing the Beatport charts.

We don't often do shows like this so this should be fun. Hope you can make it.

Los Angeles Loves... An Anniversary

So this is our anniversary show but, don't worry, we'll be celebrating with as little hoopla as when we started this thing exactly 15 years ago, July 12th. A lot has changed in Los Angeles since then and the scene was nothing like it is today. But we're happy to be here still helping bands when they need us and loving this city forever and ever. Lot 1 has graciously given us the night to have three new bands we love very much play some songs for everyone. We hope you can make it.

If there's anything to really celebrate it's the release of Mike Benecke's debut solo album because it's a stunner. We were gigantic fans of Teddy's Cheer Club and it's a beautiful thing to see Benecke back with what could be one of the most intimately thoughtful and honestly heartfelt records out of L.A. in years. It's pure. Nothing but Benecke's warm mid-tenor and intricate fingerstyle acoustic guitar gliding underneath, a musical feel that should make fans of Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and Alexi Murdoch quite smitten. The album is available at Bandcamp on 7/12 and you should get it ASAP.

We've said it before but we'll say it again: Rachel Rufrano (aka RAINMAN) is a fucking star. Okay, maybe we didn't use those exact words but we should have. There's just something effortlessly brilliant about this woman's music that we can't help but use such demonstrative words and if you've listened to her latest album Saturnalia (or her other recent self-titled release) as much as we have or heard all the Long Beach buzz about her then you know why. Get both records right this second at her Bandcamp.

Yes, Anus Kings is a rather abrasive name for a duo that does blues folk, but we must say it's quite refreshing to see L.A.'s DIY punk scene offering more than the usual barre chords and mosh pits. We've been tracking Sydney Ward aka Sunny War for four years, biding our time to get this crazy young, talented authentic country blues artist for a show. When she joined forces with Brian Rodriguez to form this group and finished their debut album (produced by FIDLAR), we pulled the trigger and are ecstatic to have them play this show. Get their new album for free on Bandcamp immediately.

Thanks for 15 years, Los Angeles. We love you.

Los Angeles Loves... A Night at The Central

Los Angeles Loves... A Night at The Central
We've been asked to present night #2 of Blondfire and In the Valley Below's residency at The Central. While most of us remember Blondfire when they were New Yorker's named Astaire, the Brother/Sister duo has seemed to come out hibernation with the release of several recent singles, most notably "Where The Kids Are," and two weekly residencies in two months. Good to see them back in action. In the Valley Below is quietly building some buzz themselves with the release of their recent EP, a hot streak of much talked-about shows, and just the fact that scene vets Angie Mattson and Jeff Mendel (Sabrosa Purr) are making music together. Get on this quickly. Bodhi opens up the night and we're excited to see them after a ton of scene kids have been telling us to check them out since they moved back to Los Angeles -- not to mention their super psyched-out track "Fancy Park" has been blowing up our Soundcloud feed the last month or so. And, finally, we're not allowed to say who the special guest is but we promise you'll love it.

Hope to see you sexy Westsiders out at The Central on Tuesday. test

Los Angeles Loves... A Night at pehrspace
Los Angeles Loves... A Night at pehrspace

We're helping with a handful of shows this month beginning with Friday's four band pileup of greatness at pehrspace. We've got Romantic Feelings and Ragana making their way down the coast to show you what's been making the kids in Olympia go crazy these days -- it should just a few listens on their respective Bandcamp pages to figure out why. Meanwhile, Victoria Noll returns to Los Angeles for a brief spell, giving us a taste of what she's been working on the last year in Austin. We've missed seeing her around town. Read our write-up on her if you feel like it. And Penny Dreadful was so good last month at Lot 1 we had to implore them to play more of those lovely folk songs for us. They're working on recordings now so until then you'll just have to see them in-person to see why so many people love them.

It's going to be a very busy month and we hope you can make it out to a few of these shows...
