As you may or may not know, Correatown is the weekly resident at The Echo for the month of October. They invited a few local badass blogs (Web in Front, Buzzbands, and Classical Geek Theatre) to present each night and somehow we were included to help with the residency finale.
And it's a big one.
First of all, we must point out the band Correatown put together for this month since it's what they call in the business, all-to-the-effing-star. Joanie Mendenhall, a member of one our favorite San Diego bands ever The Exfriends, is on keys and backup vocals. She also put out a great solo album last year entitled On a String (get it here). Next, of course, you have Ms. Sweet Hurt on keys, who for the last year has been off traveling the world playing bass (and showing off her dance moves) with The Bird and the Bee, Priscilla Ahn, and Obi Best. She's recording her first full-length record at the moment so it's great she could make time out of her busy schedule to play on these nights. Then you have Dan Long slumming it on bass. Yeah, the guy who engineered/produced records by Ferraby Lionheart, The Jealous Girlfriends, The National, and many other bands is playing four strings. Double-You-Tee-Eff. These three are supporting the core three of Correatown consisting of Mike Corwin, Rob Poynter, and Angela Correa. C'mon, you've got to be kidding us. All six of these people on stage together equals love.
So for the final night, Correatown invited a fantastic lineup of Leslie and the Badgers, The Grizzly Owls, and the aforementioned Joanie Mendenhall. If you haven't seen these bands, we know you've at least seen their names on your friend's tweets saying how awesome they are. Added to this is a bonus show with Olin & the Moon and Michael Runion downstairs at Echoplex. Set times will be staggered so you can see all the bands. And it's free for 21+ ($7 for 18+). Talk about a show for those who like it spoon-fed on a silver platter. Jeez.
