Los Angeles Needs... A Thursday Update

Los Angeles Needs... A Thursday Update
Too busy to do a Wednesday update thing yesterday and even busier today but what the hey...

Stopped by The Echo on Monday to see Sabertooth Tiger's first show in about a year. Good to hear mostly new songs, which we presume will be on a new record of some sort (their debut record is already three years old). Also, good to see Zack de la Rocha get recognized by everyone in the room... Tuesday, we revisited The Echo for The French Semester's early slot. Didn't recognize half the songs, which is an outright tell that we haven't seen them in awhile. Love the harmonies on the verses these boys make. L.A. is badly in need of more indie pop bands like this one. Later, we trotted down the street to Echo Curio for Big Digits, Baseck, I.E., Gumshoes, and Faav, all of whom made up the funnest lineup of the week. Just ask members of Anavan, Captain Ahab, and LACO$TE (seen above). After which, we headed to Mr. T's to take some photos of boxViolet who own Tuesdays at the club this month... Wednesday belonged to the all-female led lineup at The Bordello, highlighted by the solo debut of Orenda Fink. We have to pinch ourselves that both members of Azure Ray now call L.A. their home (at least for now) with one half watching the other half perform brand new songs off her upcoming record. We're very much looking forward to this.

So, is everyone ready for tonight's feast of plenty? Too many shows/events/meetups going on so we hope your chosen destination(s) is a good one. As for us, it's a coin flip, but we must say with some late additions to the night (and its proximity to Burrito King/Taco Zone), The Echo has the best lineup of the month. And even though we'd love to see our friends play the Music Box, their shows are long past the need for our attendance. Least not we forget the record release shows at the Troubadour and the Hotel Cafe; those two social megamedia gatherings; and of course catching the musical guest on the Tonight Show.

Also, here's a little teaser for tomorrow's Friday the 13th show we're helping with at the Vermont House: Tweak Bird, Halloween Swim Team, Silverghost, Non+, and Bad Parents. Holy shit, right?

Finally, happy birthday today to Meredith Meyer (record release show on 4/8).
