Everybody's doing it because everybody's doing it.
There we were last night having dinner with some friends in Koreatown when the feeds started coming in. Photo blogger Koganuts was the first to report a car chase on the Westside, stating later that spike strips were ineffective on the white Bentley. Shortly after, blogger Ms. Maria makes a funny comment regarding her need of spike-strip resistant tires. Then LAist, LAMetblogs, NetZoo, LASnark get in on the action, followed by dance-pop divas Esthero and Little Boots throwing in their priceless perspectives on the happenings with DJ Rhettmatic (World Famous Beat Junkies) coming in with some excellent commentary. Then suddenly all of the above report nearly simultaneously that the driver in question might be DJ Khaled. In short, one of the most compelling car chases in Los Angeles car chase history happened before our eyes in messages of less than 140 characters from a wide spectrum of L.A.'s finest. And, best of all, we didn't have to move one inch away from our delicious Deungshim-gui. That, in a nutshell, is the brilliance of Twitter.
In the last six months, Twitter has broken away from the microblogging pack to become the essential communication tool for in-the-know Angelenos and basically if you're not on it you are seriously missing out. Whether it be one of those "secret" shows you only hear about the following morning or just wondering what the heck Demi Moore is doing lately, it's sure to become a Top 5 app on your Blackberry/iPhone.
Below is a list of locals who Twitter that we recommend you hit "follow" on. And for those who want to follow from afar use Tweetstalk and go stealth. Either way, if more and more friends start using Twitter, then you can once and for all delete those MySpace and Facebook accounts you've been threatening to do for five years. Also, we didn't really add celebrities so if that's your thing go here for a more thorough listing.
