But If You Should Fall on Your Way, Then I will Carry You That Day

But If You Should Fall on Your Way, Then I will Carry You That Day
Went to a lot of stuff last night, but we made it a point to stop by the "3G" lineup of Gowns, Ghost to Falco, and Gamble House at Echo Curio. Echo Curio, by the way, had some of the most impressive lineups of the entire month in February. We didn't even really mention the Devin Sarno show last weekend, but his fifteen minute set was a thing of beauty. That may have been a bit short for most, but for longtime Crib fans we know any time on stage is a rarity so we'll take what we can get. The show last night was also quite good. We've been waiting for Ghost to Falco's return to L.A. for a little while now. We heard about them by way of the late great Portland band Alarmist in which GTF lead singer Eric Crespo used to play in. We found it a bit ironic while we were watching them that David Pajo was playing a few miles away at The Bordello when the band they often compared to the most is Slint. In any case, for a band that sounds this good and having been around since 2003, it was a bit surprising that the show wasn't very crowded (although we weren't complaining). They have a show tonight at the ever-wonderful Ports O Call Bedroom with Voice on Tape and tomorrow at the Grind in Riverside with Jesus Makes the Shotgun Sound. Also, Gowns (pictured above) were great as always. Ezra Buchla is a mad music genius (who played in Monstro for our show last week) and Ms. Erika is such a rock goddess and she doesn't even know it.

Should be a fun weekend... Tonight, listen up for The Press Fire! on "Demolisten." After which, head on over to Home for another dose of Inara George and Greg Kurstin's "Gimme a Steak" soiree featuring very special guests doing classic jazz standards. The special guests last time included Maria Taylor, Juliette Commagere, Becky Stark, Eleni Mandell, Blake Sennett, Alex Lilly, Samantha Sidley, and many other famous folks so we can only imagine what they have in store for us tonight (fingers crossed for Lars Ulrich doing "Girl From Ipanema"). Elsewhere, Kool Keith hangs out at the El Rey. The Movies, One Trick Pony, and Death to Anders at Ground Zero (USC). Everest, The Parson Red Heads, and Two Sheds at The Echo. Mike Watt & the Secondmen and others at Spaceland. NASA Space Universe, Moment Trigger, The Amazements and others at The Smell. Dot Hacker, Imaad Wasif, Next of Kin, and others at El Cid. Dorian Wood, Red Maids, and Marshweed at pehrspace. Mad Gregs, Monstro, and others at Echo Curio. Seasons, Soul or System, and Random Patterns at the Unknown Theater. Thee Makeout Party!, Devon Williams, Audacity, and NON+ at Synchronicity. Angie Evans, Lex Land and others at The Mint. Danceism at Lot 613. And don't forget to stop by Where for "Exposure"...

Saturday, Jim White and John Doe at g'net. Pizza!, Fol Chen and Big Whup at Echo Curio. Nicole Simone opens for Faun Fables at Spaceland. ANAVAN, The Press Fire!, and Faav at Mountain Bar. Michelle Featherstone celebrates the release of her new record Blue Bike at the Hotel Cafe.

Sunday, Molly Jenson celebrates the release of her lovely new record Maybe Tomorrow (due 3/3) at the Hotel Cafe. She's been working the cafe scene for awhile now and it's good to see her break through a bit as of late. They're looking to make a dent on the charts early by getting fans to purchase the record on its release week. Seems like a good idea to us. Check her site for details on how to help the cause. Pocahaunted, Robedoor, and others at Echo Curio. The Parson Red Heads, The World Record, One Trick Pony, and others at Air Conditioned Lounge. The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra, Calamity Magnet and others at Dakota. Blue Jungle, The Health Club, and Dirt Dress at The Que Sera. And Blank Blue at Space 15 Twenty.
