Los Angeles Needs... A Wednesday Update

Los Angeles Needs... A Wednesday Update
Good to see so many friends come out last Friday for Ms. Mancha's 18th birthday (semicolon close parentheses) extravaganza. All the bands were fantastic. Thanks to The Karabal Nightlife for inviting us to be apart of it and for being such kind hosts. Also, congrats to Ema and the Ghosts on the release of her new debut EP and for being the only artist to ever deny us from buying bulk quantities of anything. Very humbling indeed. Photos from the show should be posted by now.

We highly recommend checking out Stella Im Hultberg's new solo exhibit "Raveled", which opened last Friday at thinkspace. Unfortunately, everything's pretty much sold including all the 6X8 graphite/ink washes pieces we were fully prepared to purchase (for a very reasonable $1100 each). A few photos from the opening are up (sorry, we were lazy on Friday). The exhibit ends on 9/5.

Lots of shows going on the next few days. Busdriver and Free Moral Agents headline Low End Theory tonight. Also tonight, Qui, Halloween Swim Team, and Upsilon Acrux open for The Locust at The Echo. The Polyamorous Affair and Odd Modern at The Bordello. Idyllists, Wallpaper, and Castaneda at Moscow. Odessa Chen, Nicole Simone, and Rachel Cantu at Tangier. Low vs Diamond celebrates the release of their new, self-titled album at the Troubadour. And the Downtown Film Festival kicks off tonight with an opening night gala at the Orpheum... On Thursday, Chester French plays Spaceland. Daniel Ahearn, Liz Pappademas and others at Tangier. David Garza at g'Net. Juana Molina and others at the Twilight Dance series. Repeater, Greater California and others at Alex's Bar. And Evangelista opens for Xiu Xiu at Echoplex.

In other News: Our old friends Ozomatli will now be hosting Star 98.7's weekday morning show after a successful run as hosts of their Saturday local show "OZO Local"... The Pretenders secret thing last Monday was will be posted on Yahoo! Music on 10/1. They debuted songs from their forthcoming country album Break Up the Concrete due 10/6 on Bing's Shangri-La Music (The Duke Spirit)... Care to comment on this commentary by some TATER haters?
