Los Angeles Needs... A Monday Update

Los Angeles Needs... A Monday Update
Good crowd on Friday at the Echoplex for the Beachwood Sparks show with Mia Doi Todd, The Tyde, The Movies, Winter Flowers, Blank Blue and others. Sad we had to leave a bit early but we finally hit the wall after nearly four straight days awake working on a project. Did see a friend or two at Taco Zone later on though... Despite some serious Sunday competition, Obi Best drew a big crowd to Tangier for the second-to-last night of their residency. Be sure to pick up an advanced copy of their upcoming album Capades only available at shows or through their website. Ask anyone who's already got it and they'll proclaim it to be one of the best albums of the year. Juliette Commagere also debuted her new solo effort last night, complete with a brass quartet, a string quartet, and of course Joachim Cooder et al. Look for their debut album Queens Die Proudly in October. Watchers are watching both of these bands very closely...

Last of the Monday residencies tonight. We couldn't be more obsessed with two bands than we are with Warpaint and Love Grenades who both drew huge crowds this month to Spaceland and the Silverlake Lounge, respectively. Elsewhere tonight, Foot Village and others at pehrspace. Io Perry, Seasons, and Ollin at The Echo. Jesca Hoop and Emily Wells open for Lykke Li at the Hotel Cafe. And of course emo goth metal band Radiohead have a little show at the Bowl... Tuesday, Delta Spirit celebrates the Rounder re-release of their debut album Ode to Sunshine at Spaceland. Golden Animals and Shirley Rolls open for The Donkeys. Hecuba, Lucky Dragons, Bad Dudes, LACO$TE and others at The Smell... Wednesday, edIT and Lazer Sword at Low End Theory. Amateurs, Clevis and others at Echo Curio... Thursday, get ready for another "Rock with a Twist" at All Star Lanes. Also, Satisfaction, The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra, and Hello Dragon at Safari Sam's. Chester French, Rumspringa, Silver Ghost, and Saint Motel at Spaceland. Matthew Sweet and Greg Laswell at The Echo. The Antarcticans, The Black Pine, and The Fling at The Prospector. Joshua Radin, Erin McCarley, and Hana Pestle at the House of Blues.
