Los Angeles Needs... A Monday Update

March Los Angeles
A great weekend began with a great First Friday that we won't say much about except that everyone's faces must be sore today from all the ear-to-ear smiling that went on. We really had a lot of fun so thanks to everyone for coming and enjoying some great music. Also, thanks to the "Dear L.A." crew for bringing all the baked goods for us to get fat on. Photos up...

Many local bands will be headed to Texas this week, but there are still plenty of things to see while everyone is away. Monday residencies continue. Meiko and Emma Burgess open for Lizz Wright at the Hotel Cafe. Also, Everest and The Chapin Sisters open for Ed Harcourt at Echoplex. And Pop Noir opens for Dandi Wind at the Knitting Factory... AM celebrates the release of his new EP featuring duets with Meiko, Buddy, Tina Dico, Susie Suh, and others (some of which will be joining him on stage). Jill Sobule and Tom Brosseau at Largo... Death to Anders, Thailand, The Karabal Nightlife, and Michael Compton rock The Echo on Wednesday. Dave Palmer sings songs at Largo. And Dengue Fever opens for Angélique Kidjo at Royce Hall... Ariel Pink and Bobb Bruno make hearts melt at The Smell. Nellie McKay begins two nights at Largo. El Ten Eleven, Signal Hill, The Drift, and The Littlest Viking transform soundwaves at pehrspace. And Linda Perry, The Section Quartet and others perform for a Gimme Shelter benefit.

Happy Birthdays this week to Ms. Ashley Jax, Stewart Cole, Jim Merson (from Captain Ahab), Ben McShane, and to Ms. Priscilla Ahn who finally became a teenager yesterday. Read a nice LiveDaily interview with Ms. Priscilla here.
