One girl and a ukulele.
Ema and the Ghosts is just Ema, a girl with a ukulele and occasionally an accordion who sings sweet little ditties that make your heart tingle. We first saw Ms. Ema as a one-time member of the local group Artichoke. Details of that fallout can be read on her blog, but no matter. Perhaps the band saw her potential beyond just singing songs about scientists and doing Sex Pistols covers and did her a favor because she's perfectly lovely on her own.
She's gone on to play small shows around town, taking the stage with her invisible ghosts waltzing around her to beautiful tunes like "Flohzirkus" and "Ermine and Mink" to her pretty renditions of Velvet Underground, Flaming Lips, Beatles, and Johnny Cash classics. Her tasteful sense of songcraft is quite a gift and her wonderful sense of performance is delightful -- when she giggles after every song it kind of tickles. Meanwhile, home demo recordings have made their way around the neighborhood and more are on the way.
One girl and a ukulele. Now, doesn't that sound grand?
