And When You Sleep Don't Close Your Eyes

Fought off a bit of sickness to see some great shows this past week. Castledoor and The Exfriends reuniting after nearly a year apart, Tuesday at The Scene, Lujo Records showcase, and Art Crawl were just a few of the many highlights this week. This weekend should be just as good...

Beirut do a last-minute in-store at Amoeba tonight. We stopped by Amoeba this afternoon and noticed no camp-outs or sleepovers, but then again, indie kids don't do that anymore. We hadn't been to Amoeba in awhile but we left a little present for anyone music geek enough to be browsing around in the O section of the jazz vinyl. We also put up the poster for next week's show at Mr. T's Bowl (appropriately next to the Kelly Clarkson promo)... The Airborne Toxic Event return to the eastside scene with a show at Echoplex tonight with Castaneda and Low Vs. Diamond. Don't let the fact that KROQ is suddenly pushing their whole "Locals Only" agenda all over Silver Lake shows dissuade you from attending. It's a good lineup regardless. But if any commercial radio station really supported local bands they wouldn't put these specialty programs on the dead hour of Sunday nights when only the bands themselves might be listening and hoping to be played. In any case, go see Airborne (and forget that they're on rotation on KROQ)... Those planning on going to Spaceland tonight for The Ettes, change your plans as they have been sent eastward for CMJ -- one of many bands who were given last-minute notice of their acceptance into the festival. But you can still go to Spaceland to see the punk chantings of The Guilty Hearts... Also tonight: Eagle and Talon open for Scout Niblett at pehr; Anavan and Bipolar Bear open for Numbers; and Good Magazine anniversary party at the Natural History Museum.

On Saturday, we'll be hanging out at Cut & Paste. If you went last year, this year it's even bigger. We won't be competing but a bunch of us will be supporting our fellow speed designers... Also, on Saturday, Sir Devendra Banhart and Hecuba make sweet love at Orpheum, Brother Reade rocks the mic at The Echo and downstairs at Echoplex, Fujiya & Miyagi sing some songs you will likely make you smile.

Also, dare we say the last big festival of the season, the PasadenART Weekend showcases great art and music featuring performances from our favorites Sara Lov, Ceci Bastida, Dengue Fever, Culver City Dub Collective, Jessica Fichot, Jessie Baylin, and others.

Love. Just do it.
