Strive To Be Humble Lest I Stumble

Good shows this past week, Los Angeles. So happy to see you all again.

Tonight, we assume everyone might be excited for Rilo Kiley at All Star. Pretty cute marketing ploys, these secret shows, but we're just afraid Red Jumpsuit Apparatus or Cartel might all of a sudden be the actual surprise performer which could potentially cause a mass suicide with the hundreds of indie kids expected to see their beloved Rilo. So perhaps Great Northern with the Twilight Sleep and The Comas at Spaceland seems like a less-bloody alternative. Perhaps... Saturday is all about The Ladybug Transistor, Papercuts, and Castledoor at Spaceland then stopping by the sports arena to sweat to the Tiësto oldies. On Sunday the almighty MF Doom at the El Rey.

This weekend also marks the first time this year that we will be going to an actual movie theater. We've just been craving that incomparable smell of theater-made popcorn, the toothache you get from eating too many Milk Duds and Junior Mints, and of course the circus-like atmosphere when people watching the trailers. Now, we just got figure out what to see. Hmm...

Two good write-ups in this week's LA Weekly that deserve your attention. Why did Long Gone leave us? And a review of last week's benefit and probable farewell for 400 Blows' Ferdinand Cudia. Tears. More tears for Hal Fischman who passed away this week. Fischman was a hard-nosed, straight from the hip anchorman with a delivery straight out of classic broadcast news television. We'll miss you.
