It's Been a Little While, Since You Flashed That California Smile

First of all, last night's blog-band orgy was amazing. Bands, bloggers, blog readers, and even a few blog groupies in a room geeking it out to music, getting drunk around a pool table, and making out in the photo booth (ok, no, but we tried). We've never been around real, professional bloggers before so getting tips on proper RSS feeding, understanding Flickr hacks, and weighing in on the Blogger Vs. Wordpress debate were both educational and rewarding. Seriously, though, the night was really fun. Bands were great, Joe on decks spun local bands which was perfect (although Jax was sorely missed too), and of course that obligatory monster box of pizza was brought out at one point. Thanks to The Scene for making it happen and inviting our sorry asses to such a prestigious event. Some better reviews from last night can be found here and here. And some photos are here.

Ok, so what's next? Well, F*ck Yeah, obviously. Things start off tonight with the pre-Festival at Dave's with Dios, Antimc, and others then all hell breaks loose the next two days with finale performances from The Fuse! and The Explosion; big-time local bands like Lavender Diamond, Midnight Movies, and Great Northern; and of course a bunch of bands who regularly play The Smell and Dave's but that most people are too scared of downtown to go see. And don't forget the comedy nights at Taix (fantastic lineup). The event is curated by The Keith Morris and The Sean Carlson. Sean, you may have outdone yourself this time... Other things happening this weekend include the goddess that is Sara Lov on Demolisten tonight. Also, The Juan MacLean and Rico from Belle and Sebastian spinning at 82 tonight... On Saturday, Summer Triangle at KGB with performances by The Airborne Toxic Event, IO Echo, and others... CD release show for Sam Sparro at Bordello... Rademacher, Death to Anders, and those lovable kids known as Vox Jaguars at pehrspace... And John Doe and Dead Rock West country punking it up at Safari Sam's. Great write-up on our old friends DRW by the one and only Buzz Bands... Inara George finishes up the weekend with the second and final installment of the "Sundays in August" series, the long-going tribute nights at her old home the Theatricum Botanicum with friends The Living Sisters, Tom Brosseau, Charlie Wadhams, Priscilla Ahn, and others.

You have a good weekend, Los Angeles. We heart thou.
