First You Say It's Ok, Then You Say There's No Way

Excuse us, excuses. We were busy this week. Not just shows, which were many, but we're in the middle of some projects as well as some swell things planned for September through December.

Oh, September. Typically one of the busiest months of the year for us as everyone prepares for that last fourth quarter hoorah, we've been strategizing this September for weeks.

Three-day weekends are neat, especially in this heat. Old Time Relijun with Lucky Dragons at the Smell tonight. Also, the greatness that is Ovrcast celebrates 2 years at Dave's. Jax's show at pehrspace. Willoughby and Electrocute at El Cid. Whispertown 2000 and Wintergreen at Spaceland... On Saturday, Mika Miko return from their tour with a big show at The Smell. Benefit for Brizzah from Child P. at pehr. Also, Brian Jonestown Massacre at Echoplex for two nights... Lee Hazlewood tribute at the Bordello on Sunday.

Monday residencies this month are competitive given the lineups on each night but if you don't see The Happy Hollows at least once consider yourself blacklisted from this site and perhaps the city of Los Angeles altogether. When asked by one of our four readers at the recent Now Blog This! convention who we thought the best band in Los Angeles was at this very moment, we told them to go to The Echo on Mondays in September and find out... Not that you shouldn't go see Gram Rabbit, Seasons, and The Valley Arena (who Jax has been repping for awhile) because you should. Other residencies this month include The Watson Family Hour, Ceci Bastida, Sarabeth Tucek, Marié Digby, Seasons, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Hello Menno, and the brilliant stuff that Sean Carnage is doing for his new film at pehrspace. CD release shows include The Donnas, The Deadly Syndrome, Flying Lotus + Mestizo, The Monolators, Gabriel Mann, Melissa Maki, and Sacha Sacket... There are also big-name acts with multiple nights around town including Spoon, Lucinda Williams, New Pornographers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Rodrigo & Gabriela, Ben Kweller, and Low (Amy Winehouse cancelled both of her dates in L.A. because she drinks too much). Other tours hitting Los Angeles are Underworld, Arcade Fire/LCD Soundsystem, Over the Rhine, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Stevie Wonder, Arctic Monkeys, Midlake/Maria Taylor, !!!, Pet Shop Boys/Ladytron, Josh Rouse, The National/St. Vincent... And end-of-summer festivals close out with Neighborhood Festival, Nocturnal 2007 with Chemical Brothers, Summer Strummer, Antidoto 2007, Campout 2007, and KROQ Invasion with Smashing Pumpkins.

Some other notes: We now have a faq. We doubt anybody will read it but oh well... Also, if you ever need something to do on a particular night do check out the full calendar. C just added something like 250 new shows going into next year so we're sure you'll find something good to go to.
