Some random notes today...
First, thanks to those who made it out for these past few shows we've helped out with. Photos from our last two nights are here and here. We've got a few more coming in December and then if you behave and eat your vegetables there could be some in late January.
YouTube's Underground contest is over and as usual with these type of things that allow for spam/hack voting, some underwhelming bands got the nod. Big props to the bands that got our vote though (Halou, The Monolators, The Happy Hollows, and Polus to name a few)...
Speaking of the tube, as noted by Ms. RI, many of LA's best are getting some time on late night television recently. Matt Costa, Giant Drag, Los Abandoned, Joshua Radin, Tenacious D, and Rocco Deluca all have gotten some face time with Conan, Craig, Carson and the rest. And in the coming weeks Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins (Kimmel, 11/30), Gnarls Barkley (with their usual L.A. cohorts) (Kimmel, 12/11), Silversun Pickups (Letterman, 12/1), Cold War Kids (Letterman, 12/21), and Shiny Toy Guns (Letterman, 11/30) and will do the same. By the way, two of the most desperate ways to get on certain shows are: 1). Hang out near Johnny Rockets on Melrose or Third St. Promenade where Leno does his Jaywalking bit or 2). Play the Viper Room where Ferguson regularly hangs out and if you're good will book you himself on his show (eg. The Daylights). In related news, we've created a countdown to Conan's Tonight Show takeover since no else has done it yet. Assuming the show stays in Los Angeles (and according to insiders it will), it should start sometime in 2009. No offense to Leno fans, but he hasn't been funny since like '87 or something when he was a guest on Letterman and all he did was eat a steak sandwich. His monologue is one of the most painful things to watch in television history. Ferguson has also gone downward since his first show. He's gotten cockier over the past two years and that sound effects box routine is idiotic. Anyway, no matter, because in 2009-1-1 00:00:00 GMT-08:00 C.O. will save Los Angeles from the late night slumber we've been in since Carson left us.

Finally, there's been talk about us shutting down the sites. While we'd love to do so, we're contractually obligated to keep these things going until 2008, when we officially become free agents. Some of you have been with us since the very beginning in 1997 when we were a pitiful zine/listserv and then an even more pitiful private blog/forum and for that we thank you. But we predict there won't much use for us in the near future. However, wait until you see what we have in store for you. Until then, we will remain ad-free, content free, and awesome free. Thank you and Los Angeles loves you.
