Los Angeles Loves... A Night at Lot 1 Cafe
Night two of our Echo Park heavy-handedness is Saturday featuring some of the prettiest voices we could gather... Easy boys, we already called dibs years ago.

Chances are, if you're good at Internet-ing, you've stumbled across Britt Warner either from being mesmerized by her smoldering Lana Del Rey-esque tracks on Soundcloud, enraptured by her provocative images on Instagram, or falling in love with her offline in the dimly-lit bars in Hollywood she frequents. And if you're "All of the Above" then the 50-foot restraining order for stalking will still allow you to see the show from across Sunset Boulevard (where we will be sitting). O Holler is the newly-named duo formerly known trio of Penny Dreadful. The lovely twosome features Rachel Birke (Heller Keller) and Pauline Lay (Moses Campbell) performing folk songs as beautiful and honest as any Moldy Peaches songs we've ever heard. Most of Los Angeles's indie scene is already in love with these two in one way or another and if you aren't then you probably haven't seen this video yet. It's been a few years since The Wild Reeds slummed it at one of our shows. Since then, the trio has made some band changes and permanently returned to Los Angeles, all the while putting out some gorgeous harmony-filled folk records. "Daughters" was and is our favorite Reeds song of all time. Hear them live sing it once and you'll be a fan forever. Before just recently, June 14, 2009 was the last time we saw Cap Lori. We remember this date clearly because it was one of the most stunning performances we've ever seen and it is with huge regret that we did not record it. The utter agony of not capturing that show was somewhat subdued last year with the glorious news that Cap Lori (aka Tennessee Rose) was moving to Los Angeles from Seattle. After a few welcome back shows at The Smell and Permanent Records in December, we are proud to present her at Lot 1 on Saturday.

Our next shows won't be until some time after SXSW (4/3 and 4/6 to be exact) so hopefully we'll see you this weekend.

Los Angeles Loves... A Night at pehrspace

We are presenting two shows this weekend featuring two stacked lineups beginning this Friday at pehrspace...

We really shouldn't have to keep accolading Rainman's Rachel Rufrano any more than we already have the last few years since all you really have to do is listen to the simple genius of her most recent release Saturnalia over and over like we have and realize that she's shockingly still a hidden gem in the LA/LBC scene. "Keep My Mouth Shut" was one our 10 favorite songs of 2012. That is the truth. And speaking of favorite songs of 2012 and truth, Phoebe Bridgers' "Waiting Room" was thee heartbreaker tune of the year. It's brilliant. Those who have caught her shows with and without her band Eistein's Dirty Secret know she's something special -- and just wait until she graduates high school. Members of her band have been stolen recruited by Kitten (who look to have a full schedule ahead of them this year) so be sure to catch this show because these might be few and far between soon. If you caught our Instagram a few weeks back of us at Canter's Deli that wasn't a foodie pic of their famous "Fairfax" sandwich (although it was yummy). It was a dimly-lit picture of the long-awaited return of Farspeaker -- and, boy, are they better than ever. Led by lead singer and songwriter (and, yes, the great actor from our favorite movie of all time) Henry Thomas and featuring Max Biscoe, Kerry Harris, Andrew Burlinson, and Corey Roederer, the band takes on introspective Americana as good as any Jayhawks, Pernice Brothers, or Varnaline tune with a touch of Brit Rock musings here and there. They're currently working on their debut record and we're excited to hear the new songs. And, lastly, our favorite discovery of 2012, Black Bear & the Cheyenne Band has been so far off the radar playing shows in Riverside and Orange County that making the trek to see them secretly so many times (like last weekend) has been a gas-guzzling experience, but also a revelation. Their two releases in 2012 were unquestionably two of our favorites of the year and judging by their prolificity, they're just getting started

We highly recommend coming early and staying late for this one (and the next one).
