We're back at Lot 1 Cafe tonight where we've gathered a rather wonderful lineup of future folk pop superstars for only the most enthusiastic of folk pop enthusiasts...
For a few months since its release, Nicole Vaughn has been humbly playing small shows around town, quietly promoting one our favorite records of the year with her sophomore album Say It. And that's just one of the many great qualities we love about this young O.C. talent whose two album releases are already far more enjoyable than anything Colbie Caillat and Kina Grannis have put out. Co-produced by Kelly Winrich (Delta Spirit) and Todd Hannigan, the album goes from sunny sweet ("Stuck On You") to brutal honesty ("Say It") quite effortlessly, making us believe that this is just the beginning of great things to come. Get Say It on iTunes or CD Baby.
If you showed up early to our show last Tuesday at The Central, you might have caught the L.A. debut of Seattle's Youth Rescue Mission (our lone contribution to that lineup). The indie folk band recently released their debut self-titled album and are touring the west coast promoting it so we're quite happy to have them for their two local shows. Get the new record here.
Back in March, we secretly snuck down every Tuesday to La Cave in Costa Mesa to catch the ever-charming Audrey & the Deer's Tuesday residency. If the fact that she named her band after Audrey Hepburn and her pet deer doesn't have your curiosity in full Google mode, then the Australian-turned-Costa Mesan's debut EP should. It's good and yet we still believe she hasn't even hit her stride yet. Get her new self-titled EP here.
Our first encounter with Jack and White was purely technological: They wrote on our Facebook wall. And that's how easy it is to get us in bed. Seriously, though, any member of Self Against City/Tin Can Notes needn't ask us twice for a show. It's an automatic yes. Additionally, any Top 5 American Idol finalist can call us anytime. And that's just what we have with this special performance of Jack Matranga and Brooke White's eagerly-anticipated Los Angeles debut. They're finishing up their debut EP "Gemini" as we type this but you'll want to arrive early tonight to get the exclusive preview. Oh, and if you're counting, this is actually our second show with an American Idol finalist as we all remember the lovely Samantha Sidley from Alex & Sam killing her AI audition, don't we? (We love you, Sam!)
Please come on by if you feel the urge to listen to some good music tonight. And as serious as this lineup is, this is actually a very casual show -- that will no doubt bring out a few very savvy industry kids.
Also, please excuse the abstract flyer for tonight's show. We've been listening to a lot of Aphex Twin and UK drumstep lately.

We were quite smitten with Incan Abraham when we first caught them early last year at El Cid back when they were called Red Tide. Subsequent shows since then have only solidified their place in L.A.'s psych-pop scene however recently they've progressed to even more spaced-out, drum circle on Mars territory. It's sexy, celestial dance rock stuff and we love it. Be sure to download both their "Sunscreen" EP and "Adult World" EP here. For this residency, they've invited an eclectic assortment of the city's best indie rock bands that rarely hit the westside part of town so you might want to make your way to The Central this month every Tuesday to catch up on all the buzz.
