So, a few months ago, we were to present our first show with Ms. Elle King for our summer soiree. Due to unforeseen circumstances she couldn't make the show at the last minute. Then a few months later she tells us she's leaving L.A. to return to New York (she was born in L.A.) and we basically have a few weeks to arrange something before she leaves. Luckily, our friends at pehrspace were kind enough to make this happen because Elle King is worth the hoop jumping. If you missed any of the two shows she did this past week, this may be your last chance to hear this lady's golden voice for awhile... Also, on the lineup are our friends Jubilee Singers (formerly known as No Little Kindness) who recently released a few of our favorite records of the last year with their wonderful self-titled debut and utterly brilliant Friendly Fire follow-up (not to mention releases by their equally fantastic side projects Camel and Healing Machine). We haven't seen them since January, a show so good we knew back then that there wouldn't be many performances better than that one all year. And we were right... Saint Sea Hat is an up-and-coming Long Beach band we've only caught a handful of times. Each time giving us the urgency to get them for a show and we've finally got them. They'll be celebrating the release of their new digital single "All The Time/I'd Be Lying" available now... Last but not least, we have to give the lovely Pam Shaffer a huge thanks and shout-out for letting us present what was technically her night to begin with. She knows we love her and are always happy to see her around town, whether it be on stage or in the crowd at various DIY venues around town (this girl seriously gets around). She recently released her debut full-length As We Are, an enchanting collection of songs sung from the narrative perspective of Anais Nin's deeply sensual diaries and novels. We've only read Nin's "The Four-Chambered Heart" in college and we had a heart-on for three days. Just think what's going to happen when we hear Shaffer's "Gonzalo" on Friday. Ouch.
Also joining us on the 8's and 9's are DJ's Lili De La mora and Sarajeva Vazquez who spin more records we love (obscure French pop to rare 70's psych) then pretty much anybody else we know.
Should be a very pleasant evening of music so do stop by if very pleasant evenings of of music interest you.
